Oannes is an ancient Mesopotamian god who is believed to have been the first amphibious creature that emerged from the sea. According to the Babylonian mythology, Oannes was a wise and benevolent god who taught humanity various skills such as writing, mathematics, astronomy, and agriculture. Oannes was depicted as a half-man and half-fish creature, with a human-like head, arms, and torso, and a fish-like lower body. It was believed that Oannes would come out of the water during the day to teach humans and would return to the sea at night. The worship of Oannes was common in Sumeria, Assyria, and Babylon, and he was considered a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
